8 Places to Visit in Denver While Attending Teradata Universe 2019

8 Places to Visit in Denver While Attending Teradata Universe 2019
Teradata Universe, the essential data and analytics conference, is right around the corner - October 20-24, 2019 to be exact! The event brings together customers, business leaders, experts, and innovators to explore the possibilities, opportunities and challenges of next-gen analytics. This year, our flagship conference will be held in the Mile High City -- Denver, CO!

Denver is a world-class city located just east of the Rocky Mountains. We hope you join us for Teradata Universe this year and take advantage of the fun activities Denver has to offer.

1. Explore the Denver Art Scene

Denver’s streets have become more colorful thanks to new works by street artists in the River North Art District (RiNo) and the Arts District on Santa Fe.

RiNo began as an industrial neighborhood and the residents of Denver are now revitalizing the historic warehouses and factories, turning the buildings into restaurants and galleries.  The Art District on Santa Fe is one of Colorado's designated Creative Districts. With more than 30 galleries, the neighborhood boasts the largest concentration of art galleries in Colorado.  Meanwhile, the art in both districts extends beyond the gallery walls--murals decorate alleys and buildings around almost every corner.

2. Check out the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum

Are you interested in aviation? If so, check out the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, which is located at the former Lowry Air Force Base. The museum preserves the history of Lowry Air Force Base's operations from 1938 to 1994 in its collections, archives and research library. Wings Over the Rockies also educates visitors about aviation and space endeavors of the past, present and future. The venue houses over fifty iconic aircraft, which means you are sure to see rare historic airplanes and space vehicles.  Don’t forget to experience the realistic flight simulators!

3. Tour the Coors Brewery

Founded in 1873, the Coors Brewery has been known for their quality, innovation and customer service. The Coors Brewery Tour showcases the company’s history and their passion for brewing all within a 30-minute tour. On the tour, you will see the malting, brewing and packaging processes. Check out old photos, neon signs, vintage beer cans, bottles and memorabilia. After the tour, samples of the Coors beers are available for those 21 years and older with valid, government-issued ID.

4. Enjoy Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is one of the most famous concert venues in the United States. At 6,450 feet above sea level, Red Rocks Park is a unique location where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains. According to the venue, Red Rocks Ampitheatre is a geological phenomenon and “the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheater in the world." The open-air amphitheater sits 10 miles west of Denver and is known for its amazing sound quality and breathtaking views. But did you know you can practice yoga or go hiking at Red Rocks? Show up early and you’ll be sure to witness one of the most beautiful sunrises in Denver.

5. Stroll Around the Denver Botanic Gardens

One of the top five botanic gardens in the nation, Denver Botanic Gardens is an oasis in the Mile-High City. The 24-acre park contains a conservatory, as well as a wide variety of theme gardens. Don’t miss the “Gardens of the West” featuring 17 arid gardens showcasing plants that thrive in Colorado’s unique climate! Make sure to also visit the nine internationally-inspired gardens including the Ella Mullen Weckbaugh Tea House Garden, Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory, Shofu-en Japanese Garden, and the South African Plaza.

6. Embrace the Old West and Visit the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave

The Buffalo Bill Museum has dedicated exhibit space focusing on the life, times, and legacy of William "Buffalo Bill" Cody.  Learn about Buffalo Bill's life, the Wild West shows, and see historic firearms and Native American objects. While you are visiting, check out Sitting Bull's bow and arrows, Buffalo Bill's show outfits, Frederick Remington's "Portrait of a Ranch Hand", as well as many other artifacts from the Old West.

7. Learn How to Make Money, Tour the U.S. Mint

The Mint offers free 45-minute tours of their Denver production facilities. Every year, the Mint in Denver produces billions of coins for the American public. Did you know the Denver Mint is one of only two U.S. cities to offer tours to the public? On the tour, you will learn about the present state of coin manufacturing, as well as the rich history of the United States Mint.

8. Grab a Meal at Union Station

Experience a 100-year-old historic landmark in the heart of downtown Denver. Union Station is lovingly called “Denver’s living room." Grab a bite at Union Station, where there are lots of restaurant options to meet your needs.  Make your reservations early for meals at Mercantile Dining & Provision helmed by James Beard Award winner, Alex Seidel.
